Pentel bowls over top cricket club with new function venue install

12 Mar 2019

Pentel Contracts, part of the D&P group and sister company of Dearnleys in Wakefield, has just celebrated completing a prestigious installation of a fully-framed zip system at the world famous international cricket ground at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Lancashire County Cricket Club had encountered some significant problems with an existing solar shading system. As a result, they called in the team at Pentel, based in nearby Salford, for a full appraisal of the issues and likely solutions. The assessment found that a number of blinds were not working properly. The levels of natural light and consequent glare could not be controlled to the satisfaction of the club and its demanding client base and therefore a new system had to be installed.

Pentel conducted a full performance review at The Point, the ground’s premier hospitality venue. Not only does this venue provide unrivalled views of the ground when cricket is played, it also provides hospitality when Manchester United have a home game. The Point also plays host to a wide range of entertainment and corporate events throughout the year. It was therefore vital that the new installation from Pentel be completed to a tight deadline. After exhaustive meetings with the estates' team at the ground, Pentel and Lancashire Cricket Club agreed on an installation programme that would allow the venue to offer uninterrupted service – and more importantly, be ready for the massive one day international between England and India in July. Paul Nurse, Projects Manager at Pentel, told Openings: “This was a complex task for the team. We had to work closely with the client to ensure all our resources were in place at the right time, exhibiting real flexibility for the client and being able to work out of hours, whilst importantly coming in on time and on budget. “I am pleased to say that all of the team involved at all points in the contract at Pentel were superb. Having our own employed fitting team, together with our in-house manufacturing capability, ensured a ‘right first-time’ result.”

Pentel installed 36 Astralux 4050e electrically-powered blinds in a fully framed zip system. These can be remotely operated and provide fully darkened rooms when needed. The blinds range in height from 5.5 to 8 metres, all on the front elevation of the
building overlooking the pitch.
