HSE keep cool with Pentel

19 Apr 2013

When the architects and client were planning the new Health & Safety Executive's new HQ in Bootle they wanted to create a naturally lit environment. To harvest natural daylight atria were used in the building design but there was an understanding that solar shading would be required to regulate heat and light gain.

Almost two years before any ground was broken on site Pentel Contracts were asked to provide their expertise regarding the solar shading system that would meet the project requirements. This type of early involvement in projects of this nature is increasingly common and ensures that the solar shading is an integral part of the building.

Pentel Contracts fitted 140 electrically operated tensioned roof blind systems covering some 2,500 square metres to the main rectangular atria as well as a circular atria.

Access to the fixing site was via a combination of powered access equipment and bespoke scaffolding. Given the fact that the blinds are fitted 13m above ground level it was imperative that a proven and robust system was installed and Pentel Contracts just knew the Astralux 5000 tensioned roller blind system would fit the bill.
